A man can live and be healthy without killing animals for food; therefore, if he eats meat, he participates in taking animal life merely for the sake of his appetite. And to act so is immoral. --Leo Tolstoy, Russian novelist (1828–1910)

Why eggs are bad for you

Did you know that the USDA  legally cannot claim that eggs are healthy because they are so bad for you? When I first heard this it blew my mind. Big companies can usually get away with so much. They can basically just lie to you about whatever they wish. Eggs are so unhealthy that they legally cannot claim that they are nutritious.

Through documentaries and articles I have gained a general understanding of why eggs are bad for you. I know this will always be debated because so many people eat eggs and feel the need to defend the food item. No matter what, the following will always remain true.

  • They have no dietary fiber
  • The majority of the calories in an egg come from saturated fat
  • They are the largest source of cholesterol in the american diet
  • They increase your risk of heart disease, cancer, and diabetes
  • Salmonella poisoning is a thing. Enough said.

So why do so many people still consume eggs? It would be too simple to say that it's because they taste good. We have all been raised in this society that blinds us to the reality of these food industries and we are misguided as consumers. We are told from a young age that we need meat and dairy and eggs to be healthy. I don't blame people for defending these industries because it takes a lot to drop everything you've been raised to believe and wake up to the reality.

Here is a great video about how unhealthy eggs are.
