A man can live and be healthy without killing animals for food; therefore, if he eats meat, he participates in taking animal life merely for the sake of his appetite. And to act so is immoral. --Leo Tolstoy, Russian novelist (1828–1910)

Supplements I take as a vegan

First off I want to say that vegans are not deficient in most things. I've noticed that a lot of people assume that we are lacking nutrients and vitamins but that is so wrong. Plants have all eight essential amino acids. They also have all of the vitamins and minerals that we need besides vitamin B12.

So, what supplements do I take as a vegan? Of course I take vitamin B12. Most B12 supplements are vegan so it's not hard to pick one. I prefer to take liquid over the vitamin supplement because it absorbs quicker. That's the only supplement you need as a vegan.

I personally also take vitamin D2 because I am inside most of the time. A lot of D vitamins come from sheep so you have to be careful. I also occasionally take zinc, vitamin C, and omega 3.

Fun fact! You can often find omega 3 supplements with both DHA and EPA which is what most people take fish oil for. By taking one of these instead you aren't harming another creature and that's pretty rad.

So yeah, the only thing vegans need to be sure they are taking is B12. As long as you are eating plenty of fruits and vegetables you're fine.
