I'm not the type of person to vocally judge someone for eating a hamburger or some ice cream. I know it doesn't get anywhere to be rude about it and I'm just not like that. It's obvious that some people still feel judged by me when we eat together because they generalize vegans and think that all of us believe we are better than non-vegans. While I don't constantly talk about other people's diets, I know some vegans do. It's important to know why vegans care about what other people eat before calling them out on it.
Let's discuss the animal thing real quick. I usually keep this motive pretty short because I know it's hard to open a meat-eaters eyes to the idea that it's wrong to eat animals. We all grew up in a society where it's totally normal to eat animals. We are completely desensitized to the fact that they are actual living creatures. But, vegans are woke as hell. They know that it shouldn't be normal so it's hard for us not to call that out sometimes.
Let's move on. Vegans have made the connection between animal products and the impact these products have on the body and the world. We don't have bad intentions. We care because we want everyone to make good choices that will positively impact the planet. What you eat affects everything. When you go vegan you realize that it's not only about you.
Just one pound of beef requires almost 2,000 gallons of water to get to your plate. That's insane. When you have stats like that in your mind at all times it's hard to be okay with it. It's hard to not say something. We aren't taught about how the meat and dairy industries are destroying our planet. States are in droughts and they are just told to take shorter showers, they aren't told not to eat meat and dairy. Once you finally expose yourself to the truth it's hard not share it. Some people just need to learn how to share these facts without coming off as judgmental and others need to stop being so emotional about the idea of change and the idea that the way they live may be destroying the world.
Also when you consider that meat and dairy are so unhealthy, it's difficult not to care. The health thing goes further too. People often complain about having acne or being overweight and other physical things like that. So many of these small things could be solved on a vegan diet rather than taking pills or whatever else. When you know that often all it takes is a plant based diet to solve these problems, why wouldn't you share that information? I haven't been sick once since going vegan if that tells you anything.
It's hard to think like a vegan when you aren't one, just like it's hard to think like a meat-eater when you don't eat meat. I try not to generalize and I always make an effort to try and see things from everyone's perspective, but I'm not always good at it. Don't be afraid to call me out if I ever say anything in a way that offends you. The facts will always be there but delivery is everything. I don't think that I'm better than anyone because I don't eat meat or dairy and most other vegans don't think this way either. My apologies on behalf of vegans that have made you think negatively about us.
Yeah I do kind of get that sense usually but this blog hasn't come off that way to me.
