A man can live and be healthy without killing animals for food; therefore, if he eats meat, he participates in taking animal life merely for the sake of his appetite. And to act so is immoral. --Leo Tolstoy, Russian novelist (1828–1910)

Meet the empowering Koi Fresco

Meet vegan Youtuber Koi Fresco. This video he made about veganism is really educational, especially for those just learning about veganism. He breaks this discussion into two segments: health reasons to going vegan and ethical reasons.

While talking about the health reasons to veganism Fresco discusses how it increases a persons life span, clears skin, improves body odor and so much more. Veganism has even been proven to reduce cancer causes! Many people don't know that 70% of the world's population is lactose intolerant. When you think about this, it's seems pretty obvious that the human body wasn't meant to ingest dairy. Fresco says "drinking the growth hormones that are used to turn a baby calf into a 2,000 pound animal does nothing but throw our own hormones out of sync." This has been proven through many recent studies. I really enjoyed the way he was able to get these ideas across.

Fresco then goes on to discuss our planets health and how it benefits from veganism. I'm glad he considered this in this video. In my post about the documentary Cowspiracy I discussed how animal agriculture is the leading cause of many of the earth's problems including global warming. Fresco brings light to this again.  He discusses how livestock alone use 1/10th of the worlds drinkable water. How crazy is that? He also brings up methane emissions and other issues strictly involving the earth.

A lot of people give vegans a hard time because they don't think that one person can make a change. I've heard from so many people that vegans don't actually fix anything because these animals will die anyways. That's completely not true. I'm glad Fresco bring this up. According to his findings, 400,000,000 less animals have been killed since 2007 because of veganism.

He then puts health issues aside and focuses on the ethical reasons of veganism. Fresco compares pets to other animals. It's so important that people make this connection. We were all raised to believe that it's terrible to eat dogs or cats but completely normal to eat pigs or cows. Why is that? Fresco also brings up how it's somehow normal to many people to wear animal skin. Again, why is that? It's important to think about these things.

I found this video very informative and helpful. Fresco is obviously very educated on this topic and is able to get the facts across without bringing his own emotions into it. This video is definitely worth watch.
